The Vicarious Web 2.0 Conference: Day Three
posted Friday, 7 October 2005
We're at the last day of one of the most important Web conferences in a few years now. While I wished I could have been there (very much), it was also interesting to see the kind of bird's eye view we were able to get via the terrific blog coverage that came out of the conference, which far surpassed anything that traditional media outlets produced. So, here's a big thanks to all those attendees who did such a excellent job blogging from the show, in many instances during the sessions. And another thanks has to go to O'Reilly and Co. for presumably allowing it, especially given that the show was sold out, and not everyone who wanted to could attend.
I won't be able to do post many items from Day Three here so I hope readers will use the comments section below to make up for anything I missed. All Web 2.0 Conference links are welcome.
Here's the latest Web 2.0 Conference coverage for day three:
- Hot: Google just made a product announcement at the Conference. Apparently a web-based feed aggregator called Google Reader, we're just now getting some good posts from the session with details. We're seeing this in posts from Evan Williams and others.
- Paul Miller posts some very nice, detailed coverage from Day Three including about the Google Reader unveiling above. And more buzzword grist for the mill: printable hyperlinks. Paul also posted an interesting Disgruntled Look Back At Day Two, where he says the show seemed to lose its 2.0 focus and excitement for a while.
- Richard MacManus also posts about the Google Reader saying it looks like Gmail and is "very Ajaxy."
- A well-written article posted today by Gary Price discusses the Web 2.0 Conference, his feelings that there were too many announcements, and gives us a good feel for being there.
- The San Jose Mercury News released ECHOES OF THE BOOM today that discussed the significance of the conference. Emphasizing that Web 2.0 sites are "open", the article discusses the hype and the buzz from the conference. The article covers a bit of the Google/Yahoo! rivalry and says "there was also a certain feistiness. Yahoo Chairman Terry Semel, one of the speakers, belittled rival Google's recent efforts to expand beyond its leading Internet search engine, describing the diversification as a haphazard attempt to catch up with his company."
- Ian Davis keeps up his stellar postings on his blog. Check out his latest today at Web 2.0 Conference Notes: From The Labs and includes plenty of interesting detail including notes about mediascapes, digital furniture, and Virgil.
More as I can get them posted. And don't forget, please post any conference findings here that you come across. Thanks!
Have a great weekend, I'll be back and posting on Monday!
